UN Resident Coordinator System
The UN Resident Coordinator acts as the designated representative of the Secretary General for development operations and the leader of the UN Country team. The office of the UN Resident Coordinator supports the functioning of the resident coordinator system, in which all UN agencies play a role, by promoting information sharing and coordination through regular meetings of the UN Country Team.
UN Rwanda Mission Statement
We the Representatives and the staff of the United Nations agencies in Rwanda, pledge to work together towards the recovery, rehabilitation, reintegration and reconciliation of Rwanda. We believe in the vision of the United Nations Charter and aim to bring to life its mandate and principles through the policies we create and the programs we implement. We will work together to effect positive systemic change in the context of the UN reform, whereby we would create a more efficient, streamlined, coordinated UN system in Rwanda. Likewise, we will uphold the resolutions set forward by the United Nations world conferences and promote the implementation of their plans of action through our own activities and programmes in Rwanda.
We support the national priorities and programmes of Rwanda and will provide assistance in those areas identified by national interests. We are dedicated to collaborating and cooperating with our national and international counterparts in response to the request for assistance from the government in their quest to bring peace, stability, and prosperity to Rwanda.
We recognize the complexity of the unique problems facing Rwanda in its post-genocide context and respect the necessity for sensitivity and efficiency in responding comprehensively to the wide scope of needs. We will act, both individually and collectively, to assist to the full extent possible with the reintegration of returnees, the empowerment of vulnerable groups, and support to survivors of the genocide to encourage an atmosphere and culture of peace, tolerance, and reconciliation.
We will formulate humanitarian and development assistance to advocate sustainable human and resources development, effective capacity building, good governance and sounded economic management. We believe in the principles of united social, economic and political development and will strive to encourage community and civil society building to facilitate its evolution.
We are committed to achieving these aims through responsible and appropriate policymaking, strategic and collaborative programming, and effective advocacy for the rehabilitation, reintegration and reconciliation of Rwanda. We will be active partners with the people and government of Rwanda. |
